Assistant Professor of Instruction - Communication (Finance)



The University of South Florida, a Preeminent Research University and AAU member with campuses across the Tampa Bay region, seeks to fill a 9-month, full-time and non-tenure-earning Assistant Professor of Instruction Communication position with a specialization in group communication or related courses in the Department of Communication. A PhD in Communication is required. Applicants who are ABD will be accepted, but the degree must be conferred by the appointment start date on August 7, 2026. Salary is $55,000.

The department seeks a teaching colleague who will assist in delivering the undergraduate curriculum in the department. The teaching load is 4/4. This colleague will teach group communication and additional courses in the department's undergraduate curriculum, which may include courses in business and professional communication such as, interview communication. This colleague will also coordinate the general education group communication course and engage in curricular development and assessment in accordance with the university and state requirements.

Our faculty values and uses a range of humanistic, interpretive, critical, and social scientific modes to communication inquiry and seeks a colleague who appreciates our department's methodological range. We are particularly interested in applicants who can highlight how their teaching and scholarship emphasize undergraduate teaching, foundational communication curriculum, and/or general education.Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Communication from an accredited institution at time of appointment and demonstrate a record of teaching group communication or related courses. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor of Instruction.

Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants with:

  • A record of teaching courses in business and professional communication (e.g. interview communication)
  • Experience with curriculum development and/or assessment
  • Experience with coordinating or assistant coordinating multi-section courses
  • Experience with online teaching
