Community Education Specialist (Full Time, North Carolina Based) (Personal Services)



The Community Education Specialist (CES) is responsible for advancing a System of Care approach through the identification of training needs, the development of member-focused curricula, and the coordination of education for members and stakeholders. This role ensures the delivery of timely and meaningful information designed to engage, educate, and inspire change among public and private organizations that serve Alliance members and recipients with health needs and high-risk populations.

Educational initiatives are intended to improve access to care, promote prevention, advance health-directed care, and support community-based and system-wide approaches, processes, and programs. The CES collaborates closely with the Community Health and Well-Being team to implement curricula that address gaps and emerging needs. By focusing on system-level solutions, this position strengthens collaboration, increases access to essential services, and identifies trends that inform continuous improvement.

This position will allow the successful candidate to work fully remote from their home office or hybrid from the Alliance office assigned, if preferred. The candidate must be a North Carolina resident and able to travel in the Alliance catchment area.

 Responsibilities & Duties

Public Education

  • Implement, evaluate, and execute community education initiatives using evidence-based training strategies
  • Provide information, education, and consultation to organizations interacting with individuals with special health care needs or high-risk populations
  • Develop, implement, and assess education and training activities that improve access to public healthcare and support Systems of Care approaches
  • Collect, analyze, and report data on educational initiatives to evaluate impact and guide program improvements
  • Oversee initiatives aimed at supporting Alliance members and recipients
  • Facilitate referrals and assist in the early identification of individuals with special health care needs

Collaborate with Internal and External Stakeholders

  • Partner and collaborate with community organizations to provide support, education, advocacy, and research initiatives using a Recovery, Trauma-Informed, and Systems of Care framework
  • Promote projects, trainings, and initiatives through strategic marketing and outreach that foster active collaboration with key stakeholders
  • Engage the community to advance the mission, vision, and values of Alliance and the Community Health and Well-Being department, developing partnerships and strong relationships with Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) and other stakeholders
  • Conduct community outreach through targeted marketing, social media engagement, public awareness campaigns, and advocacy efforts
  • Serve as a community resource by providing education, guidance, and coordination for healthcare services, as well as crisis and emergency management support

Outreach

  • Assist with identifying opportunities for education and outreach, including target populations, effective locations, and engagement strategies
  • Develop resources that can be utilized by Alliance members and recipients to improve health knowledge and access to services

Travel

  • Regular travel to Alliance offices, community meetings, events, and training sites is required as part of this role

Minimum Requirements

Education & Experience

Required:

Bachelor's degree in public health, health education, or related human services from an appropriately accredited institution with at least three (3) years of relevant experience.

Preferred:

Master's degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of experience.

OR

Medical degree, with experience working in medical environments, community health, or healthcare systems.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills, highly effective communication ability, and the propensity to make prompt independent decisions based upon relevant facts
  • Demonstrate problem solving and conflict resolution skills 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of behavioral and physical health, disabilities, and related community services. 
  • Ability to become proficient in all disability areas, including areas where co-occurring illnesses exist.  
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the primary purpose and functions of community human service systems and agencies.
  • Bilingual - Spanish preferred

Employment for this position is contingent upon a satisfactory background and MVR (Motor Vehicle Registration) check, which will be performed after acceptance of an offer of employment and prior to the employee's start date.  

Salary Range

$28.96 - $36.92 Hourly

Exact compensation will be determined based on the candidate's education, experience, external market data and consideration of internal equity
