Bilingual Meteorologist, KRIS (Biotech)



Ready to track tropical systems, forecast coastal weather patterns, and keep South Texans safe when severe storms strike? KRIS-TV, the Scripps-owned NBC affiliate in Corpus Christi, Texas is looking for a weather enthusiast who can turn complex meteorological data into clear, compelling forecasts for our viewers.

This role puts you at the forefront during hurricane season, thunderstorms, and flooding events—giving you invaluable experience forecasting in one of the country's most diverse weather environments. You'll build your on-camera presence while growing your forecasting skills across TV, digital, and social platforms. WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Prepare and deliver daily weathercasts utilizing all available weather data and graphics computers
  • Forecasting in Spanish required
  • Track and report on urgent weather developments, interrupting regular programming when necessary for public safety
  • Deliver weather content across multiple platforms including TV, radio, and digital channels
  • Assist management in evaluating potential new weather data gathering and presentation technologies
  • Develop weather-related story ideas from news leads and tips
  • Report live from weather events or from our mobile broadcast unit
  • Write and produce quality weather stories for multiple media platforms
  • Work cooperatively with photographers assigned to weather coverage
  • Gather and verify factual information through interviews, observation, and research
  • Perform other duties as needed and assigned

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • Bachelor's degree in Meteorology preferred
  • 3+ years experience in broadcast meteorology preferred

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • Proficiency with weather and newsroom computer systems
  • Knowledge of broadcast-quality camera equipment
  • Experience with video editing systems
  • Strong broadcast and AP-style writing skills
  • Ability to post content to various websites
  • Self-motivation and ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Driving required. Valid driver's license, good driving record, and ability to provide proof of insurance with the company -equired insurance limits
  • Fast-paced newsroom setting with potential for extended hours during severe weather events
