Head of Strategic Initiatives, US SUR Department: Surgical Sales (Finance)

What's the role?

The Head of Strategic Initiatives, US SUR is responsible for the development and execution of the US Surgical Strategy. The Head of Strategic Initiatives, US SUR will work closely with the Head of Sales US SUR to meet and achieve the strategic objectives and revenue targets for the business unit. The Head of Strategic Initiatives, US SUR must work seamlessly with Sales, Marketing, Corporate Accounts, Academic Accounts, and Digital Workflow to ensure accountability to the surgical strategic plan. The Head of Strategic Initiatives, US SUR will also be resource for the US Marketing team, working closely to develop product messaging and tactics to execute on plans. Additionally, the Head of Strategic Initiatives, US SUR will work closely with KOL development, improving KOL engagement and effectiveness. The National Surgical Consultants (NSC's) report into the role. Lead position for SUR Customers at Tradeshows, Conferences and the ZICC in the US. Work as appropriate with Global Product Development and SUR Anterior, SUR Posterior BU for US SUR.

Here's what you'll do:

  • 60% of activity will be allocated to the operating room with a focus on deployment of tactics designed to achieve surgical strategic objectives.
  • Manage and direct a team consisting of National Surgical Consultants (NSC's), aligning the NSC activity to exceed revenue and market share growth, develop KOLs, and increase sales force effectiveness
  • Support KOL development goals by spending time in the OR with national, regional and local KOLs, optimizing product performance, ensuring accuracy of product messaging, and creating clarity of corporate initiatives
  • Partner with Sales Training to support internal meetings (such as New Hire Training, National Sales and Regional Meetings) as well as training and certification for product launches.
  • Align with Sales Training and sales leadership to support clinical and technical seller development plans.
  • Develop surgical strategies (Equipment & Consumable go-to-market, Targeting, Incentive Plans, Strategic Accounts, Digital) that support installed base growth across key product categories (Visualization, Equipment, Posterior & Anterior Consumables/Liquids, and Digital). Provide Sales and Marketing leadership with quarterly strategy plan updates
  • Meet or exceed national revenue targets for the surgical business unit
  • Meet or exceed market share targets for the following surgical categories: Visualization, Vitreoretinal, Cataract, MiCore, IOL's and Digital
  • Collaborate with Surgical Marketing to provide surgical sales support for strategic products and software (such as HMD, disposable RESIGHT, Surgery Optimizer, etc) and support conferences, trade shows and customer events (ZICC, etc.)
  • Provide post-merger integration support for ZEISS/DORC/Katalyst/FCI leadership and representatives during the on-boarding and integration process.

  • Support various sales, marketing and commercial excellence initiatives, such as migration to NextGen CRM, Account Management and ABCD Focus.
  • Provide R&D and Marketing with essential input and feedback to ensure the Posterior and Anterior
  • product portfolios are strengthened to support the achievement of SUR business units strategic objectives.

Do you qualify?

  • Minimum 15 years of ophthalmic surgical experience and 10 years of a proven track

  • record of leading and managing sales teams.

  • Four (4) years college degree

  • Strategic leadership with documented track record of success

  • High level of technical/clinical ophthalmic surgical and capital equipment knowledge

  • Strong organizational and communication skills

  • Computer literacy in word processing, spreadsheet, and database management

  • Exceptional negotiating and diplomacy skills

  • Must possess a valid motor vehicle license

  • Fifty percent or more of time is spent traveling, including overnight stays

  • Must have knowledge of Carl Zeiss Meditec and competitive product lines

  • Must be self-motivated and have ability to work reliably and independently with minimal

  • supervision

  • Creative, resourceful, and have good people skills

  • Comfortable with fast paced, complex culture

The annual pay range for this position is $$163,300 - $204,100.

The pay offered for this role may be influenced by factors such as job location, scope of role, qualifications, education, experience, & complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent.
