School Custodian, Monroeville (Healthcare)



This position is responsible for performing routine cleaning, maintenance, and light repair tasks to ensure that the school facility supports the unique needs of students receiving special education services. This position primarily works in the evenings. 

Duties and Responsibilities:     

  1. Cleaning and Sanitization:
    • Perform daily cleaning of classrooms, restrooms, hallways, offices, and common areas, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and emptying trash.
    • Sanitize frequently touched surfaces to maintain a hygienic environment, following health and safety guidelines.
    • Restock supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper.
  2. Facility Maintenance:
    • Conduct routine maintenance tasks, including changing light bulbs, minor plumbing repairs, and basic upkeep of school equipment.
    • Report any major maintenance or repair needs to the Facilities Manager or Principal.
  3. Safety and Security:
    • Ensure that all entrances, exits, and pathways are free of debris and potential hazards.
    • Lock and unlock school facilities as required, ensuring security measures are followed.
    • Assist in emergency cleanups, such as spills or incidents that require immediate attention.
  4. Support for School Operations:
    • Set up and arrange furniture and equipment for school events, meetings, and special programs.
    • Assist staff with moving materials or equipment as needed.
    • Respond promptly to requests for cleaning or maintenance assistance during school hours.
  5. Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with teachers, administrators, and other staff to support the needs of the school community.
    • Maintain a respectful and professional demeanor when interacting with students, including those with diverse abilities and needs.

Qualifications:

Education: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience: 

  • Previous custodial or maintenance experience preferred, particularly in an educational or healthcare setting.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Basic understanding of maintenance tools and techniques.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Additional Requirements:   

  • Current Act 114, Act 34, Act 151 and NSOR Clearances required prior to an offer (Must be dated within 1 year of hire date).
  • School Personnel Health Record (Form H511.340) must be completed and received by Human Resources prior to hire date.

Working Conditions:
The Custodian will work primarily indoors but may occasionally need to perform outdoor tasks, such as snow removal or grounds maintenance. The role involves exposure to cleaning chemicals and requires adherence to safety protocols. This position primarily works in the evenings but flexibility to work weekends may be required. This position may involve standing, walking, and active engagement throughout the day. Position Schedule: 260-day

Salary: AIUFT Collective Bargaining Agreement Step 1 $41,517.00  ($19.96/hour) 

Benefits: AIUFT Collective Bargaining Agreement

FLSA: Non-Exempt
