Meat & Seafood Staff (Wedge Lyndale) (Food Services)



Weekend availability required.
PURPOSE: Provide prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable customer service. Cut and display fresh meat and seafood as needed.
REPORTS TO: Meat & Seafood Manager
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Customer service. Provide prompt, friendly, courteous assistance to customers. Provide customers with accurate information on product availability, source, nutrition, and preparation (including food safety). Assist customers with special orders. Respond knowledgeably to customer questions about coop policies and products, referring customers to other employees/resources as needed.

Stock displays according to the procedures outlined in department training: ensure an appearance of abundance and quality and use safe handling practices. Follow the priorities set by Meat & Seafood management, completing work in a timely manner. Rotate overstock into storage and maintain order of refrigerator/freezer.

Check incoming product for quality, verify piece count, and notify buyers of discrepancies, quality problems, and over-shorts. Sign for deliveries with appropriate adjustments to invoices and communicate credits to vendor. File invoices. Help with unloading as needed. Prepare receiving areas for next day's deliveries.

Work area maintenance. Maintain Meat & Seafood sales, prep, and storage areas in clean, orderly condition to meet or exceed health department standards. Monitor cooler and freezer temperatures. Scrub and rinse blocks, floors, walls, and cases per department procedures. Properly dispose of unsaleable product. Inform Meat & Seafood management immediately of supply shortages or equipment repair needs.

Communication and cooperation. Attend Meat & Seafood department meetings and communicate regularly with other Meat & Seafood staff to ensure department cohesion and customer satisfaction. Help train new counter staff as directed by Meat & Seafood management.

Work in a safe manner, following safety procedures.

Perform other tasks as assigned by Meat & Seafood Management.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience:

At least 6 months face-to-face customer service experience preferable in busy retail environment
Some hands-on professional experience with meat and seafood, whether in a retail, wholesale, or restaurant/deli environment preferred

Skills:

Customer service, including ability to project friendly, outgoing presence
Demonstrated ability to work well with others in fast-paced team environment
Ability to sustain a strong focus on detail and maintain a prolonged commitment to tasks

Knowledge:

Familiarity with natural foods, including natural and organic meat and seafood preferred
Knowledge of meat-cooking techniques preferred
Demonstrated ability to work with customers and coworkers from diverse cultural backgrounds
Ability to work with TCCP to create an inclusive environment where all are welcomed

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to lift 65 lbs. repeatedly, occasionally more
Ability to work for extended periods under cold, wet conditions
Prolonged standing in meat preparation and receiving areas and on the sales floor
Ability to perform continuous fine work with hands with knives and other hazardous equipment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
