The Director, Actuary role is part of Retirement Strategies (RS) Modeling, Methodology, and Assumption team, focusing on assumption development for legacy Variable Annuities and New Co products (e.g., FlexGuard Accumulation and Income, SurePath Accumulation and Income, PruSecure, DAI, and WealthGuard). The scope of this role pertains to development of material, highly-visible insurance assumptions for the inforce and new business blocks, with a focus on policyholder behavior and mortality assumptions. The role is also responsible for the development of expense assumptions for both Individual and Institutional RS, presenting a unique opportunity to learn multiple facts of the Retirement Strategies business. In this role, you will be leading experience studies, providing experience monitoring updates to management, reviewing and participating in industry studies, and conducting actuarial analysis to determine the financial impacts of final assumptions proposals. There is also opportunity to innovate process improvements for various projects using Python, SQL, and PBI.

The current employee work arrangement for this position is hybrid and requires your on-site presence on a reoccurring basis as determined by your business. Your manager will provide additional details relative to the specific number of days you are expected to be on-site.

What you can expect:

  • Lead a team of four actuaries, including one rotational student, in the development of Inforce Valuation & New Business Pricing assumptions used for financial reporting (Stat/GAAP), Pricing, Capital, and Forecasting for various insurance products.
  • Collaborating with Valuation, Pricing, Modeling, and the Product Management to communicate assumption updates and determine reasonability of impact estimates.
  • Drive recommendations through the governance and approval process including presentation to senior management.
  • Support establishing assumptions required for new product development and strategic business initiatives.
  • Participating in and supporting industry experience studies.
  • Support internal/external audit, and statutory PBR assumption examinations.
  • Support Assumption management team initiatives to develop assumption monitoring tools and techniques.
  • Collaborate across various teams to enhance/streamline our data analytics tools and capabilities by leveraging emerging technology and best practices.
  • Participate in enterprise-wide assumption groups to share knowledge and be an active participant in Prudential's Actuarial Community.

What you'll need:

  • College Degree (BA / BS) required.
  • FSA with 8+ years of actuarial experience or equivalent experience in a similar quantitative financial field.
  • Knowledge of experience studies and assumption development process required.
  • Understanding of, and experience with, robust governance controls is strongly preferred. Proven track record of control mindset.
  • Strong analytical mind and the ability to produce unique insights that bring business value.
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly in presenting technical results to senior executives and non-technical audiences.
  • Self-starter with excellent project management skills and ability to juggle multiple urgent priorities.
  • Creative problem-solver, particularly in areas with very little clarity or precedence.
  • Highly motivated and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment with high quality standards.

It'd be a plus if you had:

  • Degree in Actuarial Science, mathematics, finance, computer science or other quantitative related fields is preferred.
  • Annuity and/or retirement product knowledge is desirable.
  • Familiarity with, or exposure to, SQL, VBA, Python, Power BI, and Git/Bitbucket preferred.

What we offer you:

Prudential is required by state specific laws to include the salary range for this role when hiring a resident in applicable locations. The salary range for this role is from $164,700.00 to $222,700.00. Specific pricing for the role may vary within the above range based on many factors including geographic location, candidate experience, and skills.
