Blaster/Mechanical Cleaning Technician (Construction)
Job Overview
Performs blasting/mechanical cleaning and any chemical pre-cleaning prior to blasting necessary to supply our internal and external customers with high quality, clean surface for their parts. Must maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area. Reports to the Department Supervisor & Plant Manager.
Responsibilities
Shovels or pours abrasive media of specified grade into machine hopper.Loads parts into cabinets or tumbling barrels.Turns valves on equipment to regulate pressure and composition of abrasive mixture flowing through nozzle or into tumbling barrel.Starts equipment that directs blast or flow of abrasive laden compressed air over surface of parts.Directs nozzle over surface of large parts or inserts arms through glove fitted cabinet openings and manipulates small parts under nozzle for specified intervalVisual in-process inspection.Proper performance of tasks required within the blasting process.Verify part counts incoming and after processing.Examines finished parts to ensure conformance to specifications.Proper packaging of completed customer parts when required.Understanding of equipment, various types of blasting media, air pressures and the effects of various media upon different substrates.Utilize safe methods of handling materials, including solvents and media, required in all aspects of cleaning process.Continuous performance of administrative tasks associated with the process, including processing (and maintenance if required) of any records generated from these tasks.Work in chemical induced environment with appropriate PPE. Various types of Respirators are required for this position. Respirator training, fit testing, & medical evaluations are also required for respirator issuance.Lift 10-30 lbs on a repetitive basis without assistance.Works overtime as required.Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.Must have basic math skills to count quantities.Flexible to changing responsibilities/priorities.Reading comprehension skills required.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to remain in a stationary position 70% of the time.Frequently moves parts/equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. across work area.Visual acuity to read instructions, operate machines, and inspect parts:
Individuals who inspect material for final acceptance must have:
Color Vision Eye Examination annually per IFT vision requirements.Near-Vision Eye Examination annually per IFT vision requirements.
The Individual(s) must meet the minimum standards in one eye with or without glasses/contacts.
Travel
Local and overnight travel may be required occasionally.
