You will report directly to our Sr Engineering Program Manager, and you'll work out of our Urbana, Ohio location on a Hybrid work schedule.

Honeywell Aerospace Lighting in Urbana Ohio is seeking an AI Engineer to join our cutting-edge engineering team.

In this role, you will play a pivotal part in transforming our engineering processes by leveraging artificial intelligence, particularly large language models (LLMs). You will be embedded within our engineering teams, rapidly learning our established design standards, configuration control protocols, and project management practices, to identify opportunities for AI-driven improvements that enhance efficiency, automate routine tasks, improve our design processes, and free our engineers to focus on complex problem-solving.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and a passion for delivering high-quality aircraft lighting products.

Key Responsibilities:

• Rapid Integration & Learning: Quickly assimilate into the aerospace engineering environment, thoroughly understanding existing engineering design standards, practices, and workflows.

• Design & Configuration Control Familiarity: Become proficient with our design configuration control systems and methodologies, identifying how AI/LLMs can support and enhance these critical processes.

• Project Artifact Management: Learn and contribute to our project artifact storage and retrieval systems, exploring AI solutions for improved organization, searchability, and data integrity. Optimize our project SharePoint site.

• Process Optimization with LLMs: Collaborate with senior engineers to identify and analyze redundant tasks and inefficient workflows across various engineering disciplines and design activity.

• Solution Design & Development: Design, prototype, and implement AI/LLM-based solutions to automate trivial, repetitive tasks and streamline complex engineering project and design processes.

• Workload Reduction: Develop tools and applications that leverage LLMs to assist engineers in data synthesis, report generation, knowledge retrieval, and documentation, thereby reducing manual effort and improving workload capacity.

• Knowledge Management: Utilize LLMs to synthesize vast amounts of engineering data, technical specifications, and historical project artifacts to create intelligent knowledge retrieval systems within our project SharePoint site.

• Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with cross-functional engineering teams, IT specialists, and project managers to gather requirements, deploy solutions, and provide user training and support.

• Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of the latest advancements in AI, machine learning, and large language models, applying new knowledge to continuously enhance our internal tools and processes.

The annual base salary range for this position is $126K-$188K. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline. Honeywell considers various factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education and training, key skills, as well as market and business considerations.

The application period for the job is estimated to be 40 days from the job posting date; however, this may be shortened or extended depending on business needs and the availability of qualified candidates.As an AI Engr II here at Honeywell, you will develop and implement AI algorithms, models, and systems to solve complex business problems, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure scalability and efficiency. You will report directly to our Sr Engineering Program Manager, and you'll work out of our Urbana, Ohio location on a Hybrid work schedule.YOU MUST HAVE

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering with a strong AI focus, or a related technical field.

• 3+ years of experience in software development, data science, or AI/ML engineering (internships or significant project work acceptable).

• 3+ years of experience in at least one major programming language such as Python (preferred), Java, or C++.

• 2+ years of experience with foundational concepts of Large Language Models (LLMs) and their applications (internships or significant project work acceptable).

WE VALUE

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Experience with AI/ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Hugging Face Transformers.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and MLOps principles.
  • Understanding of version control systems (e.g., Git) and agile development methodologies.
  • Prior exposure or coursework related to aerospace engineering principles, design, or manufacturing.
  • A keen interest in aerospace industry-specific standards and practices.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to integrate into diverse teams.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify problems and propose creative, data-driven solutions.
